Dr. Levent Gürgen is R&D project coordinator in CEA-LETI. He is currently coordinating 2 European – Japanese collaborative projects on Internet of Things and Smart Cities, namely FESTIVAL (www.festival-project.eu) and BigClouT (http://bigclout.eu), involving leader institutions in Europe and in Japan. In the past, he coordinated another EU-Japan project, ClouT, for which he has been awarded by the French Ministry of Research and Education as one of the 12 “Stars of Europe”. His projects aim at using cloud computing and big data as enablers for exploiting the potential of the Internet of Things in the context of smart cities. He is also actively involved in a European – Korean project, Wise-IoT (http://wise-iot.eu), which plans a pilot deployment of smart ski resort applications that will jointly be tested in Pyeongchang and Grenoble area for the opportunity of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
Levent obtained his PhD degree in computer science from the Grenoble Institute of Technology in 2007. His main research interests include sensor data processing and service-oriented platforms for Internet of Things.
His talk will present the achievements of the abovementioned projects and share with the audience lessons learnt and experiences we had during deployment of real life examples in pilot cities involved in those projects, such as Santander, Genova, Grenoble, Fujisawa, Mitaka, Tsukuba, etc. The objective is also to inform the audience about the reusable project results by the IoT and smart city community. This will also be an opportunity to publicly announce the creation of a global smart city alliance that we will be jointly launching with our partners.
