In spite of the initial uncertainties in demand, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought about an acceleration to the growth of e-commerce and subsequently for last mile fulfilment. This can be attributed to the fact that non-essential stores were closed for a considerable amount of time, making in-person shopping impossible, leading to the growth of e-commerce thanks to the provision of safety and convenience during these trying times. Although the volume of e-commerce sales have taken a dive with the recent opening of physical stores, it is clear that COVID-19 has created a new normal in terms of consumer shopping habits and last mile fulfilment expectations.
